Editorial Reviews:

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY: This is a small, very light weight map-guide providing the most relevant information on Aconcagua. It is a black and white map, printed on one side of a 13 by 19 inch sheet of durable paper. It is folded into 4 "pages" and is housed in a resealable bag. It's folded dimensions are roughly 6.5 inches by 9 inches.

This map-guide was made by a climber for climbers. The author, while on Aconcagua, envisioned having a guide that quickly gave the most necessary information without having to thumb through pages of a guidebook. This map-guide was meant to maximize functionality and minimize everything else, including space and weight. It is meant to be as small and light weight as possible while quickly and easily conveying the most relevant information possible, mostly about the ruta normal. This map-guide contains a number of individual maps. The maps are basic and straightforward: there is an overview of the mountain itself, showing camps, ridges, contour lines, altitudes, peaks, etc. There is a route map with vertical distances and average times between main camps on the ruta normal, and there is a high detail summit map with some comments and features indicated. There is also a trekking map with average times indicated, as well as a regional route map with primary roads. All of these maps are small, but easily legible. Again, the goal of this map-guide was to pack all relevant information on one easily and quickly readable format. There is also a page with basic information on the mountain.

IF YOU WANT A LARGE FORMAT, COLOR WALL MAP, DON'T BUY THIS MAP-GUIDE. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING WITH A LOT OF PICTURES IN IT OF ACONCAGUA AND A LOT OF TEXT DESCRIBING THE MOUNTAIN, THEN DON'T BUY THIS MAP-GUIDE (BUY WILD WINDS: ADVENTURES IN THE HIGHEST ANDES BY THE SAME AUTHOR). IF YOU WANT A STRAIGHTFORWARD GUIDE THAT WILL GIVE YOU QUICK ACCESS TO THE MOST RELEVANT INFORMATION FOR AN ACONCAGUA CLIMBER-TREKKER (PRIMARILY ON THE RUTA NORMAL) THAT ANYONE WILL APPRECIATE ONCE ON ACONCAGUA, THEN CONSIDER BUYING THIS PRODUCT.

Summary: An excellent map for climbers
Comment: Aconcagua is one of the more accessible of the 7,000 metre peaks of the world. As such, it attracts a large number of trekkers as well as climbers each year. Some of them also die on the mountain in bad years.

While most novice climbers will probably go with one of the recognised climbing companies from Mendoza, a map such as this is an essential requirement in understanding and planning a climb of Aconcagua.

One of the basic rules of any relatively adventurous activity is to be sensibly self-sufficient, rather than being overly reliant on others. Obviously, climbing a 7000 metre peak is a team effort, but having a map is added insurance in an emergency.

Summary: Great Map, but don't buy it here.
Comment: Handy pocket size map, enough info to deal with when your head is hurting. But go buy it from www.omnimap.com, it only costs $5.95, why you daft buggers pay $15 is beyond me... there are more online map sellers than amazon, in fact all the maps I'm buying this year for my S. America jaunt are cheaper on [...].... go figure... maybe Bush has shares in amazon?

Summary: Aconcagua - You may as well buy it!
Comment: I was pre-warned by the other reviews, so I didn't expect more. It's a one sided B&W folded sheet with simple maps and text, which adds to what I'm learning from the internet and other products I'm buying. If you're planning on climbing Aconcagua you'll want to buy every map or guide you can get, talk to everyone who's been there you can, and spend a lot of time researching the net. Is it pricey for what you get - yes. But if you're planning on going to Aconcagua this will be a small matter next to the few thousand you'll spend to get there!

Summary: This is not a MAP, but a summary of all routs
Comment: This is not a MAP, but a route guide summary. The maps displayed are vague and surely don't qúalify as maps but far more as a skech of the different routes. I expected something similar to the mounaneering guide maps available anywhere in Europe for the Alps, with a scale of 15.000 or 25.000. I just hope I don't come of the route and have to rely on this document to find my way back...

Summary: Useless and vague
Comment: Useless and vague.
This is a total waste of time and money.
Don't buy this map, it is useless, not well made, a crap.
Instead buy the Aconcagua by Jim Ryan with much better maps and information in a still little format.
