Summary: Very well done
Comment: What a relief not to have some annoyingly pert "host" on camera--such as in the Globe Trekker series--get in the way of telling us about this wonderful country. The film is very well conceived, dwelling first on Buenos Aires, easily the most cosmopolitan city in Latin America and home to about one third of the country's entire population, then on the Pampas and finally on Patagonia and the remote south of Argentina. The narration is full of useful information. The English subtitles are fine, though inevitably they cannot match the superb literary quality of the original Spanish. I've been to Argentina many times and think that this is an excellent, succinct introduction to the country.

Summary: Nice, but a little off
Comment: This film is excellent, what with its scenery and narration. However, a Spaniard narrates it and it seems a little odd, given that it's about Argentina. If you can get past that, it's a very comprehensive and panoramic view of this wonderful country.

Summary: 3 Sections: Buenos Aries, La Pampa, Tierra del Fuego
Comment: There are 3 sections to the DVD: Buenos Aires (25 minutes), La Pampa (24 minutes), and Tiera del Fuego (23 minutes).

Buenos Aries (the first 12 sections) covers a number of areas of he city, as well as some cultural things like the Tango, theatre, and training matadores.

La Pampa (sections 13-17) shows cattle ranching. It would never get past the SPCA, due to the callous cruelty to animals involved in "receational sports". But if you plan to travel there and stay on a cattle ranch - this does reflect the Spanish attitude toward animals.

Tierra del Fuego (sections 18-26) has good shots of the Straights of Magallen, including seals and penguins, while giving the history. There is a section on how the settlers exterminated the natives and were working on doing likewise to the ecology. There's a great section on a train ride down there, the town of Ushuaia, and some present-day industries like lumber and sheep.

Narration in Spanish; subtitles in Spanish, English, French, Italian. On the computer, Japanese subtitles are listed, altho don't seem to work. Good for learning Spanish.

I think this may have been one of the first of the series completed, especially consdiering it has 3 sections.

If you get the "Enhanced CD" instead, and it's the same one I got, it includes this DVD, and a disc of "Danzas" which I gave only a cursory listen to the beginning of a couple of tracks - not my kind of music. But amazon.com has audio samples, so you can see if you'd like to get it.

Summary: Excellent video - wonderful memories
Comment: I was born in Argentina but raised in the USA. I went back for several years in the late 1970s and enjoyed my time there.

In looking for a nice video memory of this great country and, in particular, Buenos Aires, I purchased this video. It is very well done and the video is excellent and informative.

Seeing the old areas I used to inhabit was fun and the video actually was quite detailed in its description of certain areas.

If you're looking for info on Argentina, or, like me, just rekindling old memories, this is a must-have DVD.
