This is a large Talavera Frog measuring about 2" tall, 12" long and 11" wide. The Frog has a large hole in the back that can be placed over a hook or nail. The picture shows one painting style and the one you recieve will look similar to one of the ones shown. Each piece is made of ceramic and painted in the traditional Talavera style. Since each piece is individually hand painted by Talavera artists, no two pieces will be identical and the picture is a representation of the general painting patterns and colors used. Talavera is an art form that has its roots starting in the 16th Century. Original styles have been influenced with Spanish, Arabic, Italian and Chinese origins. The Spaniards brought the technique to Mexico with a distinctive style that came from Talavera de la Reina, a city in the central part of Spain. From there it developed into a contemporary art form that is still extremely popular that many villages were built just to support the making of the numerous forms that can be purchased today.
