This is a Talavera Dove Planter hand painted in the traditional Talavera style. At the widest points it measures Approx. 10 1/2" Tall, 9" Deep, 7" Wide. A drainage hole is at the bottom. It has a high gloss finish both inside and outside and is suitable for both indoor or outdoor use. Each piece is made of ceramic and painted in the traditional Talavera style. Since each piece is individually hand painted by Talavera artists, no two pieces will be identical and the picture shows one of the painting styles and designs available at the time of the photo shoot. The one(s) you receive may have other color patterns.
Talavera is an art form that has its roots starting in the 16th Century. Original styles have been influenced with Spanish, Arabic, Italian and Chinese origins. The Spaniards brought the technique to Mexico with a distinctive style that came from Talavera de la Reina, a city in the central part of Spain. From there it developed into a contemporary art form that is still extremely popular that many villages were built just to support the making of the numerous forms that can be purchased today.
